Fridge

Refrigerators and combined are among the appliances that represent the highest consumption of electricity in homes.

HOW TO REDUCE YOUR CONSUMPTION ASSOCIATED WITH THE REFRIGERATION OF YOUR REFRIGERATOR?

Although it does not have a high power (200 W), this equipment has a considerable consumption since it is permanently on (it is only turned off for cleaning or during periods of prolonged absence). Thus, on an annual basis, its consumption is higher than that of high-power and one-time use equipment, such as a dryer (2000 W).

Therefore, when choosing this appliance, extra care must be taken.

Frigorífico antigo

Um frigorífico combinado antigo classe D, devido à sua baixa eficiência, apresenta um consumo anual de 476 kWh, representando um custo anual de 89€.

Frigorífico A+++

Other tips
  1. Do not buy equipment with more capacity than you need.
  2. Place the refrigerator or freezer in a cool, ventilated place, away from possible sources of heat: solar radiation, oven, etc.
  3. Thaw before the ice sheet reaches 3 mm thick. This saves you up to 30%.
  4. Make sure that the door rubbers are in good condition and close tightly to prevent loss of cold.
  5. Never place hot food in the refrigerator. If you let them cool down outside, you save energy.
  6. When you take food out of the freezer to be eaten the next day, thaw it in the refrigerator instead of putting it outside. This way, you will have free cold earnings.
  7. Open the door as little as possible and close it quickly. It will prevent useless waste of energy.
Energy Label

Refrigerators with labels with 7 energy efficiency classes correspond to equipment of the most widespread technology, usually more energy efficient and in which the cold is produced by the action of a compressor powered by an electric motor. The energy label with 10 efficiency classes is used in absorption refrigeration equipment.

How to read the energy label:

frigo1
  1. Supplier name or trademark and model of the device;
  2. Energy efficiency class;
  3. Annual energy consumption, in kWh;
  4. Sum of useful volumes in all compartments without stars (operating temperature higher than -6ºC);
  5. Sum of useful volumes in all frozen food storage compartments (operating temperature below -6ºC) – the number of stars corresponds to the largest freezing compartment which, if it does not exist, will be indicated “-L” and the field intended the stars will be empty;
  6. Noise emission, in dB.
